KO KO are Los Angeles brothers Ryan and Taylor Lawhorn, who recently put out the EP Float. Vocal comparisons to Miike Snow are abundant but the title track is full of more thoughtful musings than the sunshine around it suggests (“I am pushing on the door between sorrow and fame”), a technique for which I am a sucker. It’s the story of a self-induced paralysis that comes from expectations not meeting reality, wrapped up in a bow of Southern Californian youth.
The song is a bit cutesy (their name is KO KO after all) with its pinball playfulness, but hell, the sun is out, it’s hump day, and I’m feeling pretty damn frisky. Check out the rest of the Float EP over on their bandcamp, and catch KO KO at The Echo on Thursday.
