“Hello baby, it’s been awhile / Glad to hear revolution is in style”
Wow, cute protest music? HEARTSREVOLUTION were listed in NME’s FUTURE 50, a countdown of innovative, new bands ready to change music. Well, that was 2008. Today, we still have yet to hear a full length, debut album. For anyone getting impatient, 2012 just started us with a great surprise.
“Hello Baby!” starts the new year looking back at 2011 with high hopes. In about 20 seconds, you will quickly see HEARTSREVOLUTION’s stance on Occupy Wall Street, although their name probably says enough. For protest music, their approach is more than unusual. There is no anger, desperation, or real urgency here. Instead, it’s just the booming beat, looping vocal sample, and singer Leyla ‘Lo’ Safai’s reaffirming words. If you want change, you’ll get it.
