Evian Christ has become 2012′s first mystery, uploading 8 new songs to his YouTube account with very little information. There are no tags or links. It’s just ambient dubstep with samples of what we can only assume are Evian’s favorite hip hop songs. “Thrown Like Jacks” takes Tyga’s rough, enthusiastic rhymes for its chorus while stealing from Grouper for the sensational backdrop. The combination reminds me a lot of Kruder and Dorfmeister’s retake of Aphrodelic’s “Rollin on Chrome.” Sure, Evian takes a much more minimalist approach, but for me, it creates the same atmosphere.
