Modern Love is a gritty, Mancunian label specializing in the deeper, darker side of things. Performing at All Tomorrow’s Parties’ festival, I’ll Be Your Mirror London 2012 (curated by Mogwai and ATP) Modern Love heavyweights and drone ambient enthusiasts, Demdike Stare, released the first half of a four-part release Elemental Parts 1 & 2 mid, last month.
Also last month, Modern Love posted a Demdike Stare mix on their Soundcloud that gives a glance of their more atmospheric side – touching on some Middle Eastern guitars, boys choir material, elementary jazz fusion and even disco-y acid house:

Back in the summer of 2009, XLR8R Magazine, as part of their Labels We Love series, scouted Manc and MLZ of Moden Love to record the 101st installment of XLR8R’s podcast series
I have uploaded a .zip file of that podcast, here: XLR8R Podcast 101: Labels We Love: Modern Love
The first track off Elemental Part 2 (also titled, Violetta) “Mnemosyne,” is a dense, industrial bit that tightly sums up Demdike Strare’s sound in two contrasting, interlocking sections. There is definitely an other-worldliness to the A-side of Violetta. Have a listen below for yourself:
