African couple Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia are preparing to release a new album that feature guest contributions from TV On The Radio, Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Theophilus London, and Santigold, among others. The album, which was largely recorded in New York, has deciperhable Middle Eastern, Indian, and African influences with a touch of good old rock ‘n’ roll.
It starts off with a low-driving pulse and plods along its bottled momentum until it pops with Santigold’s inflamed vocals. The Malian husband and wife duo, who are both blind, have tapped into a medium of the universal language. It’s a song that both urges and provokes – a call to action, to make something of your Friday night. Folila is out March 27 via Nonesuch Records. Check out “Dougou Badia” below.
