The idea of “organic electronic” music seems, in a way, to almost contradict the very meaning of each descriptor. Organic music conjures up imagery of earthy acoustic guitars, raw vocals, or really any sound untouched by machines or processors. Electronic music is clearly anything but that. But after Jaar’s previous release Space Is Only Noise and his outstanding new track “Don’t Break My Love” there is truly no better way to sonically grasp what Jaar creates other than- “organic electronic”. The track begins with vinyl hiss and pop amidst scattered beats that create a sense of the song emerging from the earth’s crust. The song slowly builds with mellow wind-swept synths creating an atmosphere of haze around glitchy rhythms and heavenly-meets-haunted vocal lines. Jaar manages to create a build throughout three-fourths of the song using textures that seem so vivid one can almost feel them touch his or her skin. Near the 5 minute mark the song cuts out, a false ending, all before wonderfully pitch-shifted vocals enter in chant over scatter-brain beats creating a climax which quickly cuts to silence. The pinnacle is short, and sweet- but never seeming too short because getting their was half the rush.
