We always talk about it, but there’s certain music that feels noticeably honest upon first listen; that conveys the depth in the part of the human spirit that cannot be tamed. Los Angeles-based band pratley (capitals aren’t for them) make honest music.
The pulsing drums and rolling brass can’t help but start early comparisons to The National, but there is an undeniable warmth here in the sincerity of vocalist James Watson’s delivery. It is auditory Dadaism, an embrace of all the chaos neatly bundled away behind the backdrop of Americana. There’s a looseness in the disorder that never feels unintentional, with breathing room for the melody to build from itself, all backed by rather thoughtful lyrics.
