Over the past few day I have been completely mesmerized by the recent slew of mixes given to us by some of electronic music’s finest. Below find a recent selection of mixes from James Murphy, Four Tet, and Jamie XX.
Upon discovering the top-notch New York radioshow Beats In Space, I was quick to download it’s two most recent guests- James Murphy and Four Tet.
James sticks to his signature dimly lit, late night disco sound walking the line between pristine, eerie, mystical and funky. Of course he is apt to keep it in the family as he highlights some up and comers from his DFA label on Part 2 of the mix. Stand out tracks include the blistering guitar from Bill Neloson’s “Connie Buys A Kodak” and the beautifully lonely melody of Woolfy’s “Looking Glass”.

Four Tet gives us a nice appetizer for his upcoming and highly anticipated Fabric Live 59 compilation. Despite moving to New York, the recent project has forced him to keep a keen ear to the UK scene, more so than when he actually lived across the ocean. The mix is a wonderful blend of tribal beats and emotional electronics, and he even manages to sneak in a new track entitled “Pyramid” off of Fabric Live 59.

As if these two mixes weren’t enough, electronic wunderkind Jamie XX was kind enough to drop an Essential Mix for Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1 this past weekend. The mix showcases Jamie’s ability to blend styles from pop to R’n'B, hip-hop to house, while managing to maintain his signature glassy sound.
