It’s a testament to the album that four years and countless listens have breezed by without a follow-up to 2007′s For Emma, Forever Ago. To this day, it still has the ability to quiet all distractions and reduce everything down as it did the first time you heard it. It still hurts like hell, and it still heals.
Details on the band’s sophomore effort are limited, but it’ll be a 10-track LP out June 21, with each song representing a specific place, and according to the press release, the album is “a lush landscape of silky electric guitars, intricate keys, and subtle horn and string sections, which retains the ghost choirs and densely layered vocals intact that Bon Iver is widely celebrated for.” Frontman Justin Vernon’s proudest track is said to be the album closer, which he says is “definitely the part where you pick up your joint and re-light it.”
I think it’s safe to assume there’s going to be many nights of beers and tears this summer, in the best way. Is it too early to call this the best album of 2011? A 50-second clip should not move me like this, it should not.
