Last November, on a cold evening, I ventured into LA’s Skid Row to see Nicolas Jaar at an Eduardo Castillo hosted event called Voodoo. Sadly, the event capacity was capped at 100 and my friends and I were left out in the cold.
At that point, I only had brief encounters with the 21 year-old junior at Brown University, most of which consisted of previous releases from Wolf + Lamb, a New York label that boasts the likes of Soul Clap (whose work we’ve highlighted in the past). Once I listened to his new album Space is Only Noise though, I could not get enough.
Jaar claims that he attempts to make “organic electronic music.” After having a thorough listen to the title track, and the rest of the album for that matter, I challenge you to find anything inorganic or mechanic about Nicolas Jaar’s music.
Nicolas Jaar – “Space Is Only Noise If You Can See”
