Classics // Beck – “Jack-Ass” | Them – “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”

Last night, during a heated discussion regarding Kanye West, Usher, and Lady Gaga after several too many Gold Room specials, we were treated to two Beck classics off Odelay.  “Devil’s Haircut” started the round, followed by the equally sexy “New Pollution.”  For the morning after, we make a return to one of the greatest pieces from the 90s, most specifically its seventh track, “Jack-Ass.”  Beck creates the ultimate dream, a song that floats and drifts into your ears.  It is tied together by a sample of the Van Morrison led Them and their cover of Bob Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue.”  Here, Morrison puts on an angry, frustrated performance that struggles to keep the intensifying band under his control.
