The first thing I noticed about Seu Jorge’s new project Seu Jorge and Almaz is how brilliantly the Portuguese artist uses the element of space. When you listen to this record their is definitely a room, or better yet an environment with all of these songs. The overall effect of the space leaves the music with a sort of outworldly/psychadelia/soulfulness that is as beautiful as it is intriguing. The smooth bass lines, sparse percussion, eerie guitar tones, and raw vocals each play their role without ever over extending their boundaries. The song “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” is a tune that seems as fitting on a mellow Sunday afternoon, as it does on a rainy Tuesday evening. Overall, the album is powerful example of Brazilian soul…
