Classics // The Fugees – “Zealots”/ “Fu-Gee-La”

Collectively, the Fugees are maintaining their relevance in music news today.  Lauryn Hill has returned to the stage, Wycleff Jean attempted to run for the president of Haiti, and Praz decided to speak out against him.  Now, if only the headlines read, “The incredible hip hop trio the Fugees have decided to stop hating each other and get back together,” everyone would be much more excited.  Until then, we need to dig into the crates and bring out the old tunes.  The Score will always be one of hip hop’s most pivotal releases with plenty of classic tracks to choose from, but for now, we will provide two of them.  “Zealots” rolls in slowly, letting the Flamingos sample pulsate in your speaker system until the bass final drops and the verses begin to churn out.  Conversely, “Fu-Gee-La” is hard hitting off the bat, even through the incredible chorus that nods to Teena Lewis’s “Ooo La La La.”  Listen to them below.
